Garden of Witches Beginner Guide

Garden of Witches is a fast-paced action roguelike where you play as Sil, the Thread Witch, who must bring together the witches of the Garden for an annual tea party — by beating them into submission with giant scissors and witchcraft. The full 1.0 release (August 28, 2026) rebuilt combat around Scissors, Spells, Imprints and Relics, and added keyboard & mouse support, Steam achievements and Japanese voice overs.

Quick answer: pick the loadout you like from the Armory, learn each witch boss's attack pattern, and use Imprints to shape your Scissors and Spells into a build. Death isn't the end — you keep permanent upgrades between runs.

The Core Loop

Each run takes you through the Garden to recruit witches. You choose your Scissors, Spells and Special Skills from the Armory before starting, then battle through enemies and bosses while strengthening the abilities you love.

Between runs, a witch's death doesn't end your story. You return stronger with permanent upgrades and knowledge of your past runs, letting you experiment with other Spells and refine your favorite builds.

The 1.0 Combat System

The 1.0 update replaced the old Attribute and Synergy system with four pillars: Scissors (your primary weapon), Spells, Imprints, and Relics.

Imprints let you further shape your favorite Scissors and Spells so you can customize builds in ways that weren't possible before. New mechanics such as Charge, Combo and Channeling give each ability a stronger identity and reward mastering your loadout.

Controls

Garden of Witches fully supports Keyboard & Mouse, Gamepad, and Keyboard-Only control schemes. You can switch between them at any time in the settings.

What Comes After the Story

Once you clear Epilogue 3, Challenge Mode unlocks. Choose the challenge you want to tackle and put your strongest builds to the test.

The game also includes Steam achievements to chase, and each witch you recruit has their own unique domain worth exploring.
